Republic ADA Lockers

Although the Americans with Disabilities Act does not address lockers specifically, it does refer to features that are found on or in lockers and provides guidance for the placement of lockers within a room. Republic makes these ADA compliant lockers to meet the requirements for accessibility and usability.

What are the Requirements for ADA Lockers?

How does Republic make our lockers so that the meet ADA locker requirements? We start by making the locker height shorter than usual so that the coat hooks do not exceed 48-inches from the floor. Then we add a shelf to create a bottom that is 15-inches above the floor. A user should be able to open their locker door without a twisting or clasping motion. We have a couple handle options to meet this need. Republic also offers an ADA compliant built-in Digilock to secure the locker. Finally, you should install these handicap accessible lockers in an area that allows the door to swing fully open and for a wheelchair to turn.

Our ADA lockers come with either 16-gauge or 18-gauge doors. We lap and weld the 16-gauge door frame corners for a strong and rigid assembly. Republic makes the body parts from 24-gauge steel. The door louvers provide ventilation for extra air flow. Like our standard lockers, the doors are punched with holes to attach a Republic number plate. A 4-inch square blue handicap sticker is also included so that these ADA accessible lockers can easily be identified.

Our ADA lockers come with one of our premium powder coat paint finishes. This will help protect your metal lockers from everyday use. We also make an ADA bench to pair with these lockers. Besides our standard steel lockers, we can customize many of our lockers so that they can meet the requirements for accessibility and usability. Assembly and Installation

You can order your new ADA lockers either unassembled or assembled. Putting these lockers together in the field is easy using nuts and bolts. You can also have Republic professionally assemble your new lockers before shipping them. We will use pop rivets instead of nuts and bolts for a strong and durable assembly. When installing your Republic lockers, make sure that they are properly anchored to either the wall or floor or both if possible. We have anchor angles available to provide a surface for anchoring a locker without legs like these handicap accessible lockers.
